Artist's Description

Low angle view of the Two Penny bridge (Zweiffennigsbrücke) with metal railing over the Fulda River in Melsungen, Germany.

Not quite historic, but because of its unusual appearance, the two-penny bridge, built in 1890, is quite a sight. It was built by a cooperative society as a pedestrian bridge over the Fulda river, so that the train station could be reached more quickly from the city. In order to recover the construction costs, each passer-by was charged two pfennigs as a user fee, which a bridge keeper collected in a small house.
